About Us

Our History

We’re not just a club—we’re a force for good.

In 1917, , Melvin Jones, a Chicago businessman, formed the Association of Lions Clubs to address social problems created by World War 1 and industrialization. In 1925—the same year that Montana’s first Lions Club was chartered, in Billings—Helen Keller challenged the organization to “become knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness,” inspiring a campaign that has since helped millions of vision-impaired individuals around the world. Since then, Lions Clubs throughout the world have spotlighted causes that help the under served, communities in crisis, and children. The Billings Lions Club spawned all the clubs in Montana and in Alberta, Canada.
